EHS students rewarded for completing college prep
El Dorado High School students in this summer’s Bridge to College Algebra class recently were honored for successfully completing the program.
All students received certificates and other materials, including T1-84 Plus CE graphing calculators, at a drive-through program at South Arkansas Community College. This year, classes followed social dis
tancing and other public health guidelines in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Designed to prepare youth for College Algebra, concurrent credit and dual enrollment, Bridge to College Algebra provides students with an intensive, immersive math experience. By enabling them to qualify for and take College Algebra before the end of high school, they may be able to gain valuable college credits before graduation.
Through a variety of investigations, cooperative group activities and one-on-one tutoring, students explored advanced math topics and skills. Additionally, area colleges and universities conducted virtual tours.
EHS students applied and were selected for this summer program, which is offered through a partnership between the El Dorado School District, SouthArk, the Union County Community Foundation and the El Dorado Education Foundation. It has taken place every summer since the El Dorado Promise was announced in 2007.
During the upcoming school year, students’ tuition for College Algebra and Plane Trigonometry will be covered. Students also will check in periodically, and receive additional tutoring assistance, as well as opportunities to take the AccuPlacer exam.
Oversight for the project was provided by Program Coordinator Callie Black and Instructor Alexis King for the El Dorado School District, and Alejandra Munoz, SouthArk Early College Coordinator.
Bridge tutors were Maggie Gonzalez, Tanecia Boone and Ahjaley Miller.
Bridge students were Leah Armstrong, Devin Ellison, Thomas Haney, Aubrielle King, Asha Lee, Zyon McGhee, Ashanti Miller, Ranasheuna Montgomery, Star Stacia Rogers, ClaudiaMarie Sharp, Hannia Valero, Dylan Wilburn, Benny Williams, and Dominique Williams.
