Seven new COVID cases reported in Union County

The Arkansas Department of Health reported seven new confirmed cases of COVID19 in Union County Monday, bringing the cumulative number of cases identified locally to 634.

There were four new local recoveries reported, bringing the total to 556. Active cases increased by three to 57; they represente­d 9.13% of the cumulative total of cases in the county.

No new local deaths attributab­le to COVID-19 were reported Monday. Twenty-one Union County residents have died as a result of the virus.

The ADH reported 27 new negative test results Monday, indicating a one-day local positivity rate of 20.59% based on the number of new cases and results reported. In all, 7,187 COVID-19 test results have returned from Union County, indicating an overall local positivity rate of 8.7%.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Arkansas grew by 320 to reach a cumulative total of 56,894 Monday. Of those, 50,689 were considered recovered, leaving 6,553 cases — 11.52% of the cumulative total — active statewide.

The deaths of nine Arkansans that resulted from COVID-19 were reported Monday, bringing the state’s death toll to 696, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.22%. The number of Arkansans hospitaliz­ed due to the virus decreased by 34 to 466, and the number of Arkansans on ventilator support decreased by two to 108.

The ADH reported 4,629 test results returned Monday, indicating a one-day positivity rate for the state of 6.91% based on the number of new cases and results reported. So far in August, 140,065 COVID-19 test results have returned to the ADH.

Since the state began testing for COVID-19, 673,704 COVID19 test results have returned to the ADH, with 616,810 negatives, indicating an overall positivity rate for the state of 8.44%.

Hopkins reported 5,737,398 COVID19 cases in the United States. Of those, 2,020,774 were considered recovered, leaving 3,539,409 cases — 61.69% — active nationwide. There had been 177,215 deaths attributab­le to the virus in the U.S. by Monday afternoon, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 3.1%.

Johns Hopkins reported 23,561,478 COVID-19 cases worldwide by Monday afternoon. Of those, 15,243,621 were considered recovered, leaving 7,506,559 cases — 31.86% — active around the world. There had been 811,298 deaths attributab­le to the virus by Monday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 3.44%.
