Lady Wildcats downed in road contest
El Dorado's volleyball team traveled to Camden Fairview on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats fell to 0-2 against two solid opponents with the Lady Cardinals prevailing by scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-8.
Fairview won the JV matchup 2-1, by scores of 25-11, 23-25, 15-7.
“With JV, I think they battled very hard after the first set,” said El Dorado coach Derek Easter. “They were arguing and lost their composure because of the lack of communication on the floor. I feel like once we got to the second set, their energy picked up and their effort increased exponentially. I think, as a whole, they played outstanding beyond that first set.”
El Dorado's varsity squad is still looking to win its first set.
“With varsity, I think we had stretches of outstanding play and then we reverted back to bad
habits of not communicating and playing as a unit,” Easter said. “They have to understand that we have to be mentally tougher and fight through adversity and control their emotions. I’m honestly glad to get through these two games because I got to see some of our glaring weaknesses, but I also got to see their flashes of how good we can be. I think we played two talented teams, but the majority of issues were self inflicted. I’m ready to get back in practice and work on those weaknesses so we can improve.”
El Dorado’s eighth and ninth grade teams won their matches, which proved a bright spot for the day.
“I think those young groups are going to be a huge boost to our program in the future,” said Easter. “They’ve had me as a coach, so they understand my expectations from my players.”
