Trojans downed by Lions

PARKERS CHAPEL – Chris Greer had 28 points, but it wasn’t enough, as Parkers Chapel fell to Hamburg 80-74 in double overtime Monday night.

The Lions tied the game in the final minute of regulation to force the extra session.

Hamburg missed a chance to win in the first overtime due to a pair of missed free throws with 1.9 seconds left, but the visitors pulled away in the second overtime.

“We fought hard all night. We just ran out of gas at the end,” said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. “We are still figuring some things out, but the fight was there tonight and we have been missing that the last couple of ballgames.

“If we can keep playing hard like we did tonight, I think we can catch some teams in the second half of the season that got us early. Hamburg has a lot of length inside and they really started pounding us in there late in the game.”

Elijah Brown had 14 points and Braydon McGoogan chipped in with 12 points for the Trojans (1-8).

In the junior high game, the Trojans were downed 43-32.

Dyson Dougan led the Trojans with 12 points. A.J. Harris had eight points and Jackson Dison finished with seven points.

“I thought they did some really good things tonight, just couldn’t quite pull it out,” Langley said. “Will Hardy had his best game. He came in and really helped us handle some of the ball pressure. We still have got work to do, but we are improving and that’s what we are looking for.”

The Trojans won the seventh- grade game in dramatic fashion, as Canon Jacobs found Braxton Hazelwood for a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift PC to an 11-8 win.

Hazelwood had five points, while J.T. Ingram, Brennan Lee and Jacobs each had two points in the win.
