The United Way of Union County held its annual meeting via Zoom on Tuesday.

The organization’s officers and board members gathered in the virtual call to affirm new board members and officers and to hear the results of the 2020 campaign and fundraising efforts.

United Way of Union County Executive Director Alexis Alexander announced during the meeting that the organization raised a total of $1,173,502 in 2020.

“Normally at the annual meeting I would talk about [events], but we canceled every event we normally hold, which is par for the course with every other non-profit in 2020. Our agency representatives really stepped up advocating on our behalf. We relied on them heavily, a lot more than normal. We had fewer volunteers… The bottom line is, we wouldn’t be where we are without that dedication,” Alexander said.

Alexander also introduced a video featuring many of the organization’s supported nonprofits. The video can be found on the United Way of Union County Facebook page.

New board members and officers were also voted on during the meeting.

According to a United Way press release, the newly-elected board members include Jason Hines, of Nexans AmerCable; Joe Jones, of El Dorado Chemical; Blaklee Ramsey, of Coldwell Banker Dumas & Associates Real Estate; and Robyn Yarbro, general manager of the El Dorado News-Times.

The new officers are President Ashley Nale, of Entergy Union Power; Vice President Kevin Hazen, of LANXESS; and Treasurer Robin Thornton, of Simmons Bank.

A list of the top ten corporate campaigns was also presented during the meeting. This list included Murphy USA; Murphy Oil;

El Dorado Chemical; First Financial Bank; Medical Center of South Arkansas; LANXESS; Simmons Bank; Rushing Yocum Foundation; Roseburg Forest Products; and Nexams AmerCable.

Alexander expressed thanks to United Way’s 2020 board members, officers and volunteers during the meeting.

“I want to reiterate that we’re thankful for our board members. [Without] our board members, agency volunteers and others, we wouldn’t have been as successful as we were in 2020,” Alexander said.
