EPD makes arrests in drug, theft cases

- By Tia Lyons Staff Writer

Two El Dorado residents were arrested on drug charges during separate traffic stops that were conducted over the weekend.

Another man faces felony charges following an arrest in which he was accused of breaking into a vehicle and then breaking into a residence with an item he had allegedly stolen from the vehicle.

Inshiqaq Q. Qiyama, II, 19, of Lakeland Street, was arrested early Sunday morning for possession of Schedule I narcotics (Ecstasy) with intent to deliver, a felony charge, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said Qiyama was a passenger inside a car they stopped in the area of North Bradley and Wast Faulkner, noting that they initiated a traffic stop after the car disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of West Main and Bradley.

Officers said a strong odor of marijuana wafted from the vehicle as they spoke with the driver and during a search, they found a small baggie containing 76 tablets and a weighing scale underneath the front passenger seat, where Qiyama had been sitting before police asked the occupants to exit the car.

A plastic cup containing 5 - 6 grams of marijuana was also in the front-seat cupholder, police said.

Qiyama was subsequently taken into custody. Nearly 11 hours later, Lillian M. Molnaird, 44, of Ivy Street, was arrested after police stopped another vehicle for disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of North Jackson Avenue and Church Street.

Police said Molnaird, the driver of the vehicle appeared lethargic and they used a police dog to conduct an “open-air sniff” of the vehicle.

The dog alerted officers to the rear, passenger side of the vehicle and during a search, police said they found what appeared a battery charger with methamphetamine in it inside a USB port.

They noted that the charger was inside a purse that also contained a spoon, adding that spoons

are commonly used to consume methamphetamine and other narcotics.

Molnaird was taken into custody and police said they found a hydrocodone pill in her right, rear pocket during a search incident to arrest.

She faces felony charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Molnaird was also cited for disregarding a stop sign.

Qiyama and Molnaird were released on the scene with citations and were scheduled for first appearance hearings Monday in 35th Judicial District Court.

Roy L. McGhee, 35, of East Fourth Street, was also expected to appear in district court Monday on felony charges of residential burglary and breaking or entering and a misdemeanor charge of theft of property.

McGhee was arrested Sunday after a resident in the 500 block of North Madison told police she had just chased a man from her residence.

Officers were called to the scene just after 1 p.m.

The woman said she walked into the den and saw a male, later identified as McGhee, standing there with a green jewelry box. She noted that the box had been inside her vehicle.

She said she “forced” McGhee from the residence and immediately locked the door.

The woman said she reviewed video footage of her home security system and saw McGhee opening the door of the vehicle and grabbing “something out of it.”

He then entered the back door of the residence. The woman said that after she ran McGee out of the house, he was captured on surveillance video placing the jewelry box back inside the vehicle.

Police said McGhee was standing underneath the carport of the residence next door and they took him into custody.

A man also reported Sunday a burglary and the theft of $4,000 cash from his residence in the 2100 block of West Main.

He said the suspect(s) also damaged an interior wall and door. Police said it appeared the suspect(s) punched a hole in the wall. They also said there was a small hole at the top of the door leading to the man’s bedroom.
