Goodman leads Oregon State to upset of No. 8 UCLA

-

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aleah Goodman scored 20 points, Taylor Jones posted her fifth double-double of the season and Oregon State upset eighthranked UCLA 71-64 on Sunday to boost its NCAA Tournament hopes.

UCLA was within two late in the fourth quarter, but Goodman hit a 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining to extend Oregon State's lead to 66-61. Jones had 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Beavers controlled the inside with a 38-24 advantage in points in the paint.

The game was tied at 57 with 5:57 remaining but the Beavers (8-6, 6-6 Pac12) outscored the Bruins 14-7 the rest of the way. Talia von Oelhoffen's jumper from beyond the arc put Oregon State on top for good.

Michaela Onyenwere led UCLA (13-4, 11-4) with 21 points and Lauryn Miller added 13. The Bruins, who posted a 27-point win over No. 13 Oregon on Friday, shot a season-low 27.6% from the field (21 of 76).

UCLA trailed 49-42 late in the third quarter before going on a 10-2 run over the final 2:32 to take a 52-51 lead going into the final 10 minutes. Onyenwere and Natalie Chou each had four points during the rally and Charisma Osbourne hit a jumper in the lane with a second remaining to put the Bruins on top for the first time since early in the second quarter.

Oregon State trailed 18-13 at the end of the first quarter, but took control in the second outscoring the Bruins by 10 to grab a 36-31 advantage at halftime. The Beavers started the second quarter with an 11-2 run and led by eight at various points in the period.

No. 7 Baylor 77, Oklahoma 66

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — DiJonai Carrington scored 19 points, and No. 7 Baylor broke away from a halftime tie to beat Oklahoma 77-66 on Sunday.

Moon Ursin had 17 points and NaLyssa Smith added 16 for the Lady Bears (17-2, 12-1 Big 12), who shot 57% in their ninth straight win.

Madi Williams scored 21 points and Gabby Gregory added 19 for Oklahoma (8-10, 5-8), which was coming off impressive back-to-back wins over Iowa State and West Virginia.

Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said not to be fooled by Oklahoma's record.

“We just beat what I consider the hottest team in the Big 12 right now," she said.

Taylor Robertson finished with 11 points for the Sooners, but Baylor's DiDi Richards hounded her and made it tough for her to get shots off. Robertson, one of the nation's best 3-point shooters and Oklahoma's No. 3 scorer for the season with 15.1 points per game, made 4 of 9 field goals in the game and 3 of 7 3-pointers.

“She's been doing that her whole career at Baylor,” Mulkey said of Richards' defense. “We know and accept how good Taylor Robertson is. DiDi, bless her heart, she's the one who gets assigned to the best player on the perimeter and has throughout her career. What you saw from Didi -- we see it every day. We see it in practice every day.”

Baylor won both games with the Sooners this season. The Lady Bears won the previous meeting 84-61 at home.

Baylor led 30-20 in the second quarter before Oklahoma went on a 10-0 run to tie the score. The Sooners took the lead on a 3-pointer by Skylar Vann and stretched their advantage to 40-32 before Baylor answered with a 10-0 run. Williams' jumper from near the freethrow line at the halftime buzzer tied the game at 42.

Williams scored 16 in the first half for Oklahoma and Carrington scored 16 before the break for Baylor. Oklahoma shot 58% in the first half against a Baylor squad that entered the day leading the nation in field goal percentage defense.

Oklahoma caught a break, though. Smith, a 6-foot-2 junior forward, played just five minutes in the first half for Baylor because of foul trouble. She played 19 minutes in the second half and had 12 points and four rebounds while playing dominant defense.
