Several adults facing assault charges held through weekend

- By Tia Lyons Staff Writer

Three people appeared Feb. 26 in 35th Judicial District Court on aggravated assault and other charges that stem from arrests in separate incidents that occurred the same day.

Deron V. Walker, 35, of Hilton Street, faces charges of two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, residential burglary, possession of a firearm by certain persons, felony with a firearm and two warrants for petition to revoke probation.

Some of the charges stem from an arrest warrant that was issued for Walker following an incident that was reported Jan. 18 and in which he was identified as a suspect.

El Dorado police responded at 10:26 a.m. Feb. 25 to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of Stuart Avenue.

The complainant told officers that Walker, an acquaintance, had been staying at his Stuart Avenue residence but the previous day, he told Walker that he had to leave and he placed Walker’s belongings on the back porch.

On Feb. 25, the complainant said Walker returned to the residence, noting that Walker was agitated about having been asked to leave.

He said Walker broke a window and attempted to enter the residence.

Walker then pointed a handgun at him and threatened to shoot him if he did not allow Walker inside the residence, the complainant told police.

He also said Walker cut his arm when he broke the window and that Walker’s arm was bleeding when he left the residence on foot.

The complainant said Walker was heading north

on Stuart when someone driving an SUV picked him up.

Police said they made contact with Walker at Medical Center of South Arkansas, where he had sought treatment for the laceration on his arm and they took him into custody.

On Jan. 18, a man told police that Walker pulled a handgun and a rifle on him during an argument in the area of Hilton Street and Euclid Avenue.

The complainant said Walker initially threatened him with the handgun and when he told Walker that “he wasn’t scared of a little .22 (-caliber) pistol and Walker wasn’t going to use it in the middle of the street during the day,” Walker retrieved a rifle from the backseat of his vehicle and pointed the rifle at him.

The man said that when he again told Walker “he wasn’t going to use it,” Walker went inside the complainant’s residence in the 600 block of Hilton.

Moments later, Walker came back outside without the rifle, got into his vehicle and drove away, the complainant said.

Police said they recovered the rifle from the Hilton Street residence.

An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Walker on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threatening, possession of a firearm by certain persons and felony with a firearm.

Officers served the warrant Feb. 25 when Walker was arrested for the incident that was reported on Stuart Avenue.

He remained in the Union County jail Saturday. A bond amount was not listed for Walker on the Union County Sheriff’s Office website.

Richard M. Williams, 47, of Fennell Road, was arrested Feb. 25 on two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by certain persons after police responded to a report of a disturbance involving a handgun in the 1200 block of West Hillsboro.

Officers were called to the scene at 2:46 p.m.

While en route, officers learned that the suspect had left the scene in a vehicle and at the intersection of West First and Flenniken, they spotted a vehicle matching a description that had been provided by complainants.

Police said they stopped the vehicle in the 600 block of School Street and identified Williams as the driver and Kolby R. Kitchens, 28, North Martin Luther King Boulevard, as the passenger.

During a search of the vehicle, police said they found a 22-caliber handgun on the floor behind the driver’s seat and a box of 22-caliber bullets in the center console.

A man told police that Kitchens, his girlfriend, arrived on the West Hillsboro scene in a vehicle with Williams, exited the vehicle and began yelling at him.

He said Williams also exited the vehicle holding a 22-caliber pistol and pointed it at him, while repeating, “What now?! What now?!”

He noted that Williams previously threatened him with the gun.

The complainant told police that another woman he knew was standing next to him when the incident occurred.

Williams was taken into custody during the traffic stop in School Street, police said.

Kitchens was also arrested on a warrant for three counts of failure to appear.

Williams and Kitchens appeared in district court Friday and were issued bonds of $50,000 and $10,000, respectively. They remained in the Union County jail in lieu of bond on Saturday.

Charlene Henry, 47, of Junction City Road, also attended a first appearance hearing in district court Friday on a charge of aggravated assault on a family or household member.

Henry allegedly threatened her boyfriend with a knife during an argument.

She told officers that her boyfriend “put hands on her.”

Her boyfriend said he shoved Henry away from him when she pulled a knife while “yelling and cussing at him.”

Police said Henry initially admitted threatening her boyfriend with a knife but moments later, she denied having done so.

They said she then made statements indicating that she “would” stab him.

Henry was later released on from the Union County jail on a $5,000 bond that was set during her first appearance hearing in district court.
