Next El Dorado Insider to focus on the outdoors

- By Tia Lyons Staff Writer

The next issue of the El Dorado Insider will be released in April and time is running out to submit items for the calendar of events that will be included in the issue.

Don Hale — of the Diamond Agency, which publishes the quarterly magazine — said the theme of the spring/ summer issue is “The Outdoors” and the magazine will feature such activities as gardening, fishing, walking/running, do-it-yourself projects and more.

“(There's) a great article on community gardeners, the (Union County) Master Gardeners, the home gardeners and a lot of other information on what to do outside,” Hale told members of the El Dorado Advertising and Promotion Commission on March 4.

The A&P commission provides funding to help publish the Insider.

“We know a lot of people aren't comfortable going in large groups inside right now so our spring issue is dedicated to getting outdoors,” Hale continued, adding that the issue goes to print this week and will be distributed during the first week in April.

An eight-page section will focus on spring and summer fashion, highlighting three local shops and boutiques that specialize in women's clothing and accessories, Hale said.

He told A&P commissioners that local models were dispatched for the feature spread and a photo shoot that was to have taken place outside was scrapped due to winter storms that pounded the area in mid-February.

The Insider staff scrambled to find an alternate location and the Murphy Arts District offered the indoor swimming pool area at The Haywood El Dorado Tapestry Collection by Hilton.

Hale noted that the MAD Playscape was the original location for the shoot.

“It's a little bit difficult to shoot spring and summer fashion when you've got

nearly a foot of snow that you're dealing with,” Hale said, drawing a laugh from the crowd.

Included in each issue of the Insider is a calendar that lists community events.

Hale issued a reminder that the calendar of events for the upcoming issue will cover spring and summer from April through August.

“All the other things on outdoor amenities and holidays and things like that, basically support what's most important to me, which is our calendar of events and making sure that the people that are visiting El Dorado have a good resource for what's going on here,” he explained.

To submit a listing for the calendar, visit the Go El Dorado website to register an event on the Events Calendar or call the Diamond Agency at 870-862-1010 or the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce at 870-863-6113.
