EHS rolls to win in season opener

El Dorado’s girls kicked off the soccer season Tuesday with an 8-0 shutout over Warren at the EHS Soccer Complex. Caroline Meadows scored five goals in the victory for the Lady Wildcats, who kicked off a three-game week.

“That was with limited playing time,” said El Dorado coach Neville Matthews. “We’ve got three games this week so I kind of limited their playing time and got some of the JV kids in. We didn’t have a JV game, so I limited their playing time and saved them. I didn’t want to use them up. We already had the game in hand.”

Marleigh Bonsall opened the scoring before Meadows scored the next four goals for the Lady Wildcats. Bonsall scored again and then Meadows found the net for the fifth time. London Ingram scored El Dorado’s final goal.

The score was 5-0 at the half. “Everything we worked on in practice, they executed today on the field,” said Matthews. “Ball movement was good. They were a little shaky at first but once they settled in, the game flowed the way we expected it. There was a lot of ball movement and the chemistry was way better than I expected.”

Warren managed just two shots on goal in the game. Hannah Turbeville and Catelynn Connor each played a half at goalkeeper for the Lady Wildcats and recorded a save apiece.

“I’m happy with the way my goalkeepers played. Julia Jackson and Melanie Miller played solid in the midfield and Millee Mobley,” said Matthews. “The defense was pretty good. Madilyn Bonsall led the defense, her and (Mary Kate) Shepherd. They held the defense firm.”

El Dorado travels to Hamburg on Friday before meeting DeQueen on Saturday.
