Comeback lifts EHS to win at Magnolia

MAGNOLIA – Hall of Famer Yogi Berra is famous for saying, “It ain't over till it's over.”

For El Dorado, truer words have never been spoken.

Trailing 8-1 at Magnolia, the Wildcats scored 13 unanswered runs, including 10 in the fifth, to stun the Panthers 14-8 on Thursday.

The Wildcats (6-4) slugged their way to victory, hitting four home runs with Landen Rainwater hitting two for EHS.

Rainwater's first home run, a two-run blast in the third, got the Wildcats' comeback started.

After scoring a run in the fourth to pull within 8-4, the Wildcats unleashed an offensive barrage in the fifth.

Rainwater was again at the forefront of the rally, leading off the frame with a solo homer to right to make it 8-5.

It was only the beginning.

Rhett Richardson and Ashton Yarbrough also followed with home runs to right, giving the Wildcats back-to-back-toback homers to start the frame and quickly close the deficit to 8-7.

The Wildcats then loaded the bases after Justin Dumas reached on a dropped third strike, Austin Jobe was hit by a pitch and Joseph Bolin singled to right.

Hunter Lawrence, who was the winning pitcher with four shutout innings out of the bullpen, tied the game with a sacrifice fly to score Dumas.

Jobe went to third on the play, giving the Wildcats runners at the corners.

That set the stage for Holden Lowry, who laced a double to left to bring home Jobe with the go-ahead run.

Rainwater was later intentiona­lly walked to load the bases, and while Richardson was batting, a pair of wild pitches allowed two runs to score to give the Wildcats an 11-8 lead.

Richardson walked to

put a pair of runners on, and Yarbrough followed with a base hit to center to score Rainwater and Richardson to push the lead to 13-8.

Dumas then drilled a triple to right to score Yarbrough to cap the scoring in the frame.

Lawrence, El Dorado's third pitcher, walked two and struck out five while allowing just one hit to pick up the victory.

Richardson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to go along with his aforementi­oned home run in the fifth.

Bolin was also 3-for-4 and drove in a run.

Rainwater was 2-for2 with a pair of homers, three RBIs and scored four runs for EHS, who had eight extra-base hits in the win.

Yarbrough was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and his four RBIs led the team.

Brennan Jones, Dumas, Jobe and Lowry all had one hit for the Wildcats, who pounded out 14 hits in the win.

The Wildcats hosted Camden Fairview on Friday, and will continue their homestand today against Malvern.

Game time is set for 5 p.m.
