Ms. Arkansas Senior America takes bow

- Ms. Arkansas Senior America praised by Rep. Westerman By Matt Hutcheson Staff Writer

Arkansas Congressma­n Bruce Westerman (R-AR4) spoke in the U.S. House of Representa­tives on Thursday, March 11 to praise both the Ms. Arkansas Senior America Pageant and the current Ms. Arkansas Senior America, El Dorado’s Sharon Morgan Tahaney. Tahaney owns Spa on Main in downtown El Dorado.

Westerman first praised the pageant itself in his remarks.

“Celebratin­g the ‘Age of Elegance,’ this pageant seeks to promote the value of our senior citizens’ experience and wisdom, while choosing someone who represents the dignity, beauty, and contributi­ons of the elderly to our communitie­s,” Rep. Westerman is recorded as saying in the Congressio­nal Record Vol. 167, No. 49 He went on to offer praise for Tahaney.

“I thank the reigning Ms. Arkansas Senior America and Fourth District native, Ms. Sharon Morgan Tahaney, for her service in the last year. After years of writing and speaking

on leadership, Ms. Tahaney now represents the State of Arkansas with grace. I believe she was right when she said that ‘there are no limits in life based on age, just on attitude,’” Westerman said.

According to a press release from the Ms. Arkansas Senior America organizati­on, the upcoming 2021 pageant is currently set for June 5.

“The deadline to apply for this year’s event is May 15. Women between the ages of 60-85 are encouraged to apply,” the release states.

The 2021 pageant will be held in Hot Springs at The Legendary Vapors.

“The women who compete in this pageant are community influencer­s who continue to serve long after the event. This is a statewide search for the gracious lady who brings wisdom, experience, talent, skills, and stories to younger generation­s, providing an opportunit­y to build a better society by example,” Arkansas Senior America administra­tor Patricia Genovese said in the press release.
