Brewer earns pair of victories for Henderson State
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Smackover's Mallory Brewer hurled her second straight complete game victory in two days Saturday as Henderson State University beat Southwestern Oklahoma State 2-1. Brewer moved into fifth place on the Lady Reddies' all-time strikeout list. With 12 strikeouts on the weekend, the former Lady Buckaroo has 169 strikeouts in her college career.
Brewer scattered seven hits with no walks while striking out seven on Saturday.
On Friday, Brewer worked out of a jam in the seventh inning to pitch the Lady Reddies to a 7-6 win at Southwestern Oklahoma State. The lefty went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Henderson State carried a 7-1 lead into the sixth inning.
Brewer gave up four hits and three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run homer, which trimmed the Lady Reddies' lead to a single run. With the tying run on second via a double, she got the final out on a foul pop to left to preserve the victory.
•Smackover's Karli Goocher homered twice in Lindenwood University's 7-6 loss to William Jewell last week. The freshman went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. On Saturday, she went 1-for3 with a double and two RBI in a 3-1 win over Rockhurst. On Saturday, Goocher went 1-for-4 with a RBI in a 10-2 win over Southwest Baptist.
•Parkers Chapel's Kenlee McAuliffe was 2-for-2 with two runs scored in Three Rivers College's 14-4 win over Metropolitan Community College. The freshman was 1-for-3 with a run in a 13-6 win over Metropolitan in the second game.
•El Dorado's Marissa Rice was 1-for-1 with two RBI in Belhaven University's 6-3 win over Sul Ross State on Friday. The Blazers improved to 17-5 and are ranked 10th in the latest NFCA Division III poll.
•West Side Christian's Anna Williams had 22 assists and 10 digs in UCA's 3-1 win over Nicholls State on Friday. The Sugar Bears won 2-9, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14. On Saturday, UCA defeated Southeastern Louisiana 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23. Williams had 21 assists and four digs.
•El Dorado native Izzy Gati, after earning a pair of All-American honors at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, is preparing for her next step.
Gati, a junior at Kentucky, hopes to achieve a childhood dream – an Olympic dream.
“I am taking a few days off this week and then I will start focusing on the long course season and Olympic Trials,” Gati said.
The US Olympic Swim Trials will be held in June. The 2021 Olympic Games will be hosted by Tokyo in July.
