El Dorado sweeps way to titles
History repeated itself on Monday, as El Dorado's boys and girls golf teams opened their seasons by sweeping their way to the Simmons Bank Wildcat Invitational titles at the Lions Club.
Both squads cruised to victory with the Lady Wildcats winning by 36 shots, while the Wildcats claimed a 35-stroke win.
Jon Brooks Elia earned medalist honors for the Wildcats by shooting a 75.
Miller Wallace had a 79, while Keaton Michael shot an 82 and Aaron Ezell finished with an 83 to round out the Wildcats, who had a team score of 319 to top runner-up Hot Springs Lakeside.
Brody McKinney rounded out EHS with an 84.
El Dorado's JV boys team was third with JR Polk shooting an 84 to lead the way.
Austin Jobe was next with an 86, while Caden Meadows had a 94 and Clayton Sewell finished with a 105.
Crossett's Cooper Williams was the run- ner-up in the race for medalist honors with a 78.
The Lady Wildcats had balanced scoring to win for the second straight year.
Lani Hammock had an 89 with Aubrey Marx and Hope Walthall each shooting 90 for EHS.
Alexa Hulsey shot 100 for the Lady Wildcats.
El Dorado's JV team was third with Sydney Marx shooting a 95 with Jana Powell adding a 97 and Katie Benson finishing with a 117.
Crossett's Tori Milton was the medalist with a 78. Hot Springs Lakeside's Brooklyn Bourland was the runner-up with an 88.
The event started four hours later due to the threat of rain, and El Dorado coach Chris Ezell was appreciative of everyone being able to make the change.
“I would like to thank the Lions Club staff for their flexibility today in delaying the start and allowing us to get this event in this year,” Ezell said. “The weather ended up being great for this opening event. Simmons Bank was also instrumental with dealing with the changes and the operations of the tournament keeping everything running smoothly.”
El Dorado heads to Bryant on Wednesday to compete against Benton, Hot Springs Lakeside and Bryant.
