El Dorado sweeps past Greenwood

- News-Times Staff

El Dorado continued its trend of sweeping its way to wins early in the season by downing Greenwood Wednesday at Mystic Creek Golf Club.

The Wildcats won by 45 strokes, while the Lady Wildcats rolled to a 47-stroke win.

Miller Wallace and Keaton Michael shared medalist honors after they each shot 82 for EHS, who had a team score of 334. Aaron Ezell was next with an 83 and Jon Brooks Elia finished with an 87 for EHS. Austin Jobe had a 91 with JT Polk and Brody McKinney each shooting a 95 with Caden Meadows finishing with a 105 for Wildcats who also competed.

Aubrey Marx earned medalist honors with a 84 for the Lady Wildcats. Hope Walthall was the runner-up with an 86, while Alexa Hulsey shot a 98 for El Dorado, who had a team score of 268.

Lani Hammock and Sydney Marx each shot 106 with Jana Powell next at 107 and Brooke McCoy finished with a 116 to round out EHS.

El Dorado coach Chris Ezell was pleased with the performance of his teams not only against the state runner-ups from a year ago, but on a hot afternoon.

“Greenwood's boys and girls were runner-ups to us at the state tournament last year and we got the opportunity to play them early this year,” Ezell said. “They graduated six boys last year and only have one returner. They have all the girls back like we do, but one of them had to withdraw from the match after only playing a couple of holes. They will be more competitive with her back in the lineup by state.

“I am excited for how well we played dealing with the heat today. We have a week before the next match, so the kids can have a little break while school starts next Tuesday. We will travel to Glenwood next Thursday to get an opportunity to play the course that hosts our conference tournament in September.”
