Louisiana Tech's Anthony named to Unitas watch list
RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech graduate quarterback Luke Anthony has been named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award preseason watch list as announced on Thursday.
The Golden Arm Award annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class.
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the distinguished Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers and former players.
Candidates are chosen based on player performance on-and-off the field.
Anthony, the 2020 Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, played in nine games and made eight starts for the Bulldogs in the 2020 campaign.
The native of Dallas, Texas, completed 138-of221 passes for 1,479 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Anthony was the third Bulldog quarterback in program history to throw at least 10 touchdown passes through the first three games of the season.
He threw a season-high 314 yards and five touchdowns and had one rushing touchdown against Houston Baptist on Oct. 2 to become the fifth player in program history to account for at least six touchdowns in a single game.
The Bulldog quarterback finished the 2020 season ranked fourth in Conference USA in passing efficiency (138.0), sixth in passing average per game (164.3) and ninth in total offense (157.9).
The 2021 award winner will be presented in Baltimore on Friday, Dec. 10.
Louisiana Tech opens the 2021 season at Mississippi State on Sept. 4 before starting a threegame homestand against Southeastern Louisiana.
