GRACE ELEANOR THURMAN NORSWORTHY CALHOUN
Grace Eleanor Thurman Norsworthy Calhoun went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2021.
She was born July 26, 1938 in Huttig, Arkansas to Florence Freeman and Henry Thurman. Grace was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Urbana, Arkansas where she served as church pianist for many years. She also played piano for more wedding and funerals than can be counted.
She had a musical gift and distinctive style that will be missed. She was a retired Administrative Assistant with Prescolite in El Dorado. After moving to Arkadelphia in 2008 to be near her daughter, Grace volunteered with the BHMC- Arkadelphia Auxiliary. She served as president of her local chapter and chair of the Southwest District. Most recently she was a member of Third Street Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
Grace was predeceased by her parents; her first husband and father of her daughter, Sam Norsworthy Jr.; her second husband, Robert L. Calhoun, Sr.; and her brother, Frank Thurman.
She leaves behind her daughter Teresa (Terry) Hagood; Son-in-law Dr. Noland Hagood; Grandsons Daniel Hagood and his wife Julia of Fayetteville, and Dr. Joshua Hagood of Little Rock, and a precious great granddaughter Willow Hagood. Survivors include: brother Earl (Bud) Thurman of Louann; sisters Charlotte Pratt (Lee Roy) of Urbana, Joan Taunton and Paula McLoud (Lorin) of Warren and Janis Mollerberg (Robert) of Hot Springs Village, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the son of her late husband Robert Calhoun Sr.; Capt. Robert (Rob) Calhoun, USN, Ph.D. (Ret.) and his wife Dr. Alice Ann Calhoun of England, AR, and his daughters Margaret and Amelia Calhoun.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Urbana Cemetery at Urbana, AR with Bro. Greg Lathem officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Welch Funeral Home.
