Georgia cranks seven home runs to eliminate Hofstra

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — No. 9 batter Josh McAllister had two of Georgia's seven home runs and the Bulldogs eliminated Hofstra in the Chapel Hill Regional on Saturday with a 24-1 romp.

McAllister was 4-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored as the Bulldogs totaled 24 runs on just 16 hits, 11 for extra bases. Six Hofstra pitchers combined to walk 10 and hit two batters.

Georgia plays another eliminatio­n game on Sunday against the loser of North CarolinaVC­U.

McAllister and Ben Anderson hit back-to-back homers and Cole Tate also homered in the third inning when the Bulldogs (36-22) erupted for 13 run, 11 before recording an out. They had seven hits and seven walks, including three straight with the bases loaded. McAllister also had an RBI single and Anderson added another bases-loaded walk later in the inning.

Cory Acton had a two-run homer and Parks Harber hit a three-run shot in the fifth inning that pushed the lead to 18-0. Luke Wagner's two-run shot in the sixth made it 20-0.

McAllliste­r's two-run homer capped the scoring in the ninth and gave the Bulldogs the largest win by a SEC team in an NCAA Tournament game.

Liam Sullivan (4-3) gave up six hits and struck out eight in seven innings to get the win.

Brian Morell and Ryan Morash both had two hits as the first NCAA appearance for Hofstra (30-23) came to a quick end. The Pride lost to North Carolina 15-4 in their opener.

Missouri State 8, Grand Canyon 7

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Leadoff batter Spencer Nivens hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning and Mason Hull followed with a go-ahead two-run shot as Missouri State rallied for an 8-7 victory over Grand Canyon in an eliminatio­n game at the Stillwater Regional on Saturday.

Missouri State will play the loser of Saturday's nightcap between No. 7 overall seed Oklahoma State and Arkansas in an eliminatio­n game on Sunday morning.

Tayler Aguilar hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first for Grand Canyon (41-21), added another two-run shot in the third and an RBI single in the fifth. Jacob Wilson hit a solo shot in the seventh to give the Antelopes a 7-1 lead.

Missouri State (31-28) chipped away at the lead in the eighth on a two-run homer by Drake Baldwin.

The Bears rally in the ninth inning started against Grand Canyon reliever Vince Reilly. Will Duff was hit by a pitch to lead off and Walker Jenkins drew a walk. Nivens followed with a three-run shot that ended the day for Reilly. Carter Young (3-5) entered and Baldwin reached first on an error before Hull delivered his game-winning shot.

Aguilar went 3-for-5 with five RBIs for Grand Canyon. Juan Colato had a solo home run in the third.

Jake McMahill (2-1) pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief to get the win. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk, striking out seven.

UCLA 16, SE Louisiana 2

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Ethan Gourson and Carson Yates hit home runs, catcher Darius Perry went 4-for-4 and UCLA steamrolle­d Southeaste­rn Louisiana 16-2 in an eliminatio­n game of the Auburn Regional on Saturday.

UCLA (39-23) will play another eliminatio­n game on Sunday morning against the loser of Saturday's nightcap between No. 14 overall seed Auburn and Florida State.

Gourson had an RBI double to spark a three-run first inning and Perry's two-run single came in the middle of a fourrun fourth that gave the Bruins a 7-1 lead. Yates hit a two-run homer in a three-run sixth and Gourson hit a solo shot in the ninth to cap the scoring. UCLA scored multiple runs in five different innings.

Ethan Flanagan went four innings in a start for the Bruins, allowing an unearned run on two hits and three walks. Jake Saum (4-0) relieved Flanagan and picked up the win with a scoreless inning of work.

Tyler Finke had a double as the Lions (30-31) managed just three hits.

LA Tech 12, Dallas Baptist 5 (Friday night)

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Philip Matulia went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Jorge Corona hit two home runs — including an inside-the-park grand slam — and No. 2 seed Louisiana Tech beat third-seeded Dallas Baptist 12-5 Friday night at the Austin Regional.

Louisiana Tech (43-19) plays top-seeded Texas in the semifinals after Dallas Baptist plays No. 4 seed Air Force in a loser-out game Saturday.

Nathan Humphreys hit a solo homer that gave Dallas Baptist a 1-0 lead in the top of the third but Taylor Young doubled down the line to left and Matulia hit the next pitch over the wall in right to give Louisiana Tech a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

Matulia had a two-RBI double and then scored on a double by Cole McConnell before Corona capped Louisiana Tech's fiverun fifth inning with a two-run home run that made it 7-1.

Jace Grady went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for Dallas Baptist (34-23-1).

Cole Moore hit a three-run homer for Dallas Baptist in the top of the sixth but, with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, Corona hit a high fly ball to center field that Humphreys lost in the twilight and landed near the warning track, clearing the bases and allowing Corona to score standing up to make it 11-4.
