‘OCEANS OF POSSIBILITY’
Summer reading continues Tuesday at Barton Library
The Union County Public Library System’s “Oceans of Possibility” summer reading program will continue tomorrow and throughout this week with events each weekday. The county’s libraries are closed today to mark Juneteenth, which was Sunday.
This year’s summer program has already started with a series of events including movie showings, learning activities for both children and teenagers and weekly Storytime readings.
This week will kick off with Tinker Time at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow followed by the “Glow Germ” project with the Union County Extension Office starting at 2 p.m. at Barton Library.
Weekly Story Time on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. will be followed by a learning opportunity with park interpreters from the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources in Smackover, who are set to lead a workshop titled “Where Does Oil Come From?”
On Thursday, kids’ musician Leonardo is scheduled to perform at 2 p.m. at the library.
The week will conclude with an exposition courtesy of the One Heart Dojo and another movie showing, both scheduled for 2 p.m.
Events will continue on Monday, June 27 with activities including a 3D printing workshop and a no-bake snack mix class on the schedule. For a full schedule of summer activities, visit the UCPLS website at ucpls. org.
Registration is still ongoing for the summer reading competition as well.
UCPLS executive director Michael O’Connell previously told the News-Times that although anyone can come to the library’s summer events, those who register join the age groupbased reading competition.
Registered readers will receive a calendar, a reading log and additional “goodies.” Readers are asked to log books they read, and prizes will be awarded to the most proficient readers based on age group at the conclusion of the program.
