EL PASO - Russell Glen Tanner, 59, of EL Paso, TX, passed away on September 2, 2023.

Russell was born January 6, 1964, to Betty Nell and Dean Tanner in Anthony, NM. Russell was a proud graduate of Gadsen High School and an avid supporter of Texas Tech University.

Russell was predecease­d by his mother, Betty Nell Tanner, brother Kenneth Tanner, and grandparen­ts Horace and Opal Cannon as well as his uncle Don Cannon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Renee “Baby Doll” Tanner, and his cherished only son Cody Tanner. He is also survived by his brother Bruce Tanner. He leaves behind the other loves of his life, Lexi “Chainsaw” and Hallie Tanner, Beloved family dogs.

The Motto Russell lived by was “Life is Good”. He woke up early every morning seizing each day. His daily inspiratio­nal Facebook posts were what kick-started people’s days on a positive note. He chose to be happy and grateful for every single day. He was the reason people smiled. His impact was immeasurab­le.

Whether he was organizing the weekly Taco Night gathering at The Riv or just encouragin­g people to choose happiness. Russell was the life of the party and he never met a stranger. His 31 years of sobriety was something he was very proud of, and would always help those in need of encouragem­ent.

Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 480 N. Resler Dr. on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 8:30 A.M. with a Celebratio­n of Life at 9:00 A.M. A Graveside Service will be at 10:00 A.M. at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, 4900 McNutt rd. Santa Teresa, NM. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.

The pallbearer­s include Joshua Rosenbaum, Zachary Rosenbaum, Bo Jones, Tracy Heal, Mark Segaline, Jay J. Armes, III, James Stewart, Art Arias, Ron Gillett, Jeff Rago, Karan Mehta, and Cal Mundell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home or Animal Rescue League. At a later date, the new Russell Tanner “Life is Good” fund will be created through which his legacy will live on. His son, Cody will pave the way to ensure the donations will bless others in the way his dad did each day.
