NorthEaster Parade to be pretty in pink with Barbie theme
This Easter weekend is family time with numerous events to mark Good Friday and Easter.
Families can enjoy two popular events: the NorthEaster Parade and EggstravanganZoo. The Zoo event provides great animal encounters, fun egg candy stations, and a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny.
Spring also brings a chance to check out the early blooms. The Cactus and Rock Club will have its Garden Tour on Saturday, and people will also be able to purchase cactus plants.
Here is a closer look at events for this weekend.
Good Friday hike at Mount Cristo Rey
On Good Friday, the gates will open at 7 a.m. for people to arrive and start climbing Mount Criso Rey. There will be no main pilgrimage; people can climb at their leisure. The trail is marked by the Stations of the Cross, and people often stop at each one to contemplate each step as part of the path Jesus walked to Mount Calvary on the day of his crucifixion. Soft drinks, water and snacks will be available for purchase. The gates will close at 3 p.m.
El Paso Zoo EggstravanganZoo
Plan a hippity hoppity stop at El Paso Zoo's annual EggstravanganZoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 30-31. There will be egg candy stations, animal enrichment treats, and performances. It's a fun-filled adventure for everyone.
Last day of Poppies Fest
The Poppies Fest, sponsored by the city, will have its last day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Transmountain Road. The fest will include food trucks, vendors, performances, exhibitors, workshops, archery and more. Free admission.
Cactus and Rock Club Garden Tour
The El Paso Cactus and Rock Club is having its annual garden tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 30. Cacti are available at 3008 Titanic Ave. For more information including garden locations go to instagram/epcactusandrockclub or call 915-755-3558.
El Paso Rhinos host Teddy Bear Toss
In their final regular series home games, the El Paso Rhinos will host their annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Rhinos Arena Friday through Sunday, March 29-31, in games against the Colorado Grit. The Rhinos will celebrate fan appreciation at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Friday's game will include a special giveaway for the first 50 entrants courtesy of the Brian Burds Home Selling Team. Saturday's game will feature the Teddy Bear Toss in memory of Joni Arnett. Fans are asked to bring new stuffed animals to toss on the ice after the Rhinos' first goal. The stuffed animals will then be donated to the El Paso County Sheriff's Offices to use on calls that involve children. Sunday's game will include a special appearance by the Easter Bunny.
Easter Parade features Barbie theme
The Easter Bunny will be the main star at the 46th NorthEaster Parade, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30 in Northeast El Paso. This year the theme will be Barbie so expect a lot of pink popping up.
The parade starts on Diana Drive and proceeds for about a mile. It is a community parade with nonprofit organizations, youth organizations and other units and a fun way to kick off Easter weekend.

The Mexican musical group Los Angeles Azules will bring its "El Amor de mi Vida USA Tour" to El Paso with a performance at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Don Haskins Center. Tickets, ranging from $39 to $199, plus fees, are available at Ticketmaster.com.
