EL PASO - Bobbie Powell passed away on April 2, 2024 at the age of 83 after a battle with Parkinson’s. Bobbie was born in Marion, North Carolina on October 14, 1940. She graduated from Old Fort High School and then graduated from Lee-McRae College in 1958-60 in Banner Elk, North Carolina, located in the Smokey Mountains.

She found her way to El Paso in 1962. Bobbie went to work for Safeway Stores in the Southwest Division office as a secretary. She later was promoted to Executive Assistant to the District Manager for the El Paso District.

Bobbie was an avid reader - reading almost 4000 books in the last 30 years when she started keeping track. She loved to shop with her friends, and she always took care of herself by going to the gym regularly. She loved to cook and eventually amassed a library of over 60 cookbooks. Bobbie was a woman of few words but they were always kind and loving words. She never said anything bad about anyone. Her smile and personality could always win you over.

Bobbie met her husband Don through Safeway in 1969. Don was an assistant manager for Safeway so their paths crossed many times. Safeway had a strong employees association, and they got together at their functions. They dated about two years before getting married on February 20, 1971. Since then Bobbie has made a loving home for Don in Lovington and Roswell, NM and several houses around El Paso. She gave up a couple of good jobs to follow him in his Safeway career. They bought Northeast Printing in 1987 and once more Bobbie rose to the occasion to help him in his business and still provide a comfortable home for him to come home to.

Bobbie and Don loved to travel with friends and get together for lunch or dinner. She loved to tend to her flowers and garden when she had one.

Bobbie had a strong character and was always by Don’s side no matter what came along. She was Don’s friend, work-mate, lover and soul-mate for 53 years. As Don said, “She always laughed at my stupid jokes.

She loved her friends, she loved her church and she loved her husband. Her loss will leave a tremendous void in all our lives.

Graveside services will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8700 Dyer at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the El Paso Human Society in her name.
