RIO RANCHO - Mrs. Barbara Ann ( Jordan) Clifford passed away on March 25th, 2024 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at the age of 92. She passed peacefully at The Retreat, a memory care facility where she had been residing.

Barbara was born in Ladysmith, WI on March 21st, 1932 to Stephen S. Jordan and Beulah A. (Holden) Jordan, the third of four children. The family eventually relocated to Arizona where Barbara attended junior college, and where she was to meet her husband of 55 years, George A. Clifford.

Barbara and her husband George settled in El Paso, TX in the mid 50’s where they would build their life together, raising three children and becoming vital and well-thought-of members of the community. Barbara delighted in devoting her time and talents to various organizations and for many years was actively involved with local chapters of the Assistance League, Beta Sigma Phi and the Red Hat Society. She was also a faithful member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church on Edgemere Blvd. for nearly 40 years.

In midlife, Barbara decided to continue her formal education, enrolling at the University of Texas El Paso, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Barbara had an adventurous spirit and greatly enjoyed traveling all around the U.S. and abroad. She had a deep love and appreciation for music of all kinds, often attending there El Paso Symphony’s concerts, enjoyed engaging in various crafts and was a voracious reader. She loved to play board games and was regarded as a formidable player of Trivial Pursuit.

To those who knew her, Barbara was sweet, kind and caring, quiet yet strong, with a finely tuned appreciation of humor - her smile was a delight to see. Strangers, too, would be left with the same impression. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, friend and neighbor.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband George, her brother Hugh and her sister Sharon. She is survived by her sister Marian Elson as well as her three children Julie Clifford, Douglas Clifford and Jeffrey Clifford, six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

In memorial, please consider making a donation in Barbara’s name to any nearby chapter of the Assistance League.
