Butte County preps for November

- By Laura Urseny lurseny@chicoer.com

OROVILLE » Households throughout Butte County have likely received the first of many reminders from the Butte County Clerk-Recorder’s office that there’s an election coming in November.

Postcards to registered voters are going out about the Nov. 3 election, which will be all mailin, postage-paid ballots again.

In addition, residents thinking about running for office have from Monday to Aug. 7 to start filing their paperwork.

Clerk-Recorder Candace Grubbs knows it’s going to be a busy season. She got used to the routine of reminding voters about elections and mail-in ballot for the March election, so that part is old habit. But her office and voters are going to be busier in November.

A variety of elected officials terms are ending, from city and town council members, to educational trustees, special district board directors, and state and national decision makers, not to mention the president.

Candidates for city or town councils need to go to the city clerk’s office to file, she said, but all others come through her office.

“Now’s the time if people are interested in what’s going on to get involved and apply for office,” Grubbs said Friday.

Candidates for all the seats will be posted on the election office website, which will be updated nightly.

There will be state and local measures as well.
