Couple celebrates 60 years of marriage

Merelen and Ron Volpato, of Chico, recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

The couple met while attending Chico State, and while both worked part time at Sno White Drive Inn, where Nash’s Restaurant is located today. After college and his U.S. Navy tour they married in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on the morning of June 18, 1960.

He retired, after 38 years, from GAB Business Services as a regional claims adjuster in 1997.

She retired, after 16 years as a secretary from Butte College in the office of the Vice President for Student Service in 2001.

They have three children, Ronnie, (Mary), Christine Dinsmore (John) of Elko, Nevada, and Juliana O’Bryan (Colin) of Reno, Nevada and 6 grandchild­ren.

They celebrated their anniversar­y with long time good friends Clyde and Ruth Bowman, formerly of Chico, now of Woodland. Ruth, born and raised in Hawaii, toured the couple around the islands of Kauai and Ohau.
