Locally themed letters are worthy of attention

-

We have many local concerns in our community. Our editor has allowed more space, at times an entire page, for local insight. At least here locally our First Amendment right has not been extinguished. The involvement is a refreshing change from the endless nauseating, mindless letters on “the big bad orange man in Washington.”

• On June 8, two letters got my attention because of the local theme. The first was from Chuck Jasper, “Going all in on the plaza solution.” It outlined Patrick Newman’s “Hilton at the Plaza.” As most left wing causes go, a little help is never enough. The left wants you to bleed compassion to those who don’t help themselves. Mr. Newman’s cause is only helping to destroy the downtown area. The tents in the plaza I’m sure are second class. Newman’s next demand … Wait for it … fully equipped mobile homes in the middle of downtown.

• I particularly enjoyed Joe Azzarito, “Time to bring expenses in line with reality.”

City manager Mark Orme has been hiding behind the devastating 2018 fire and now using COVID-19 to justify his mismanagement of the city’s budget. Mr. Orme and his lefty friends on the council always let you know “public safety” is their first priority. But with their timely sequester away from the public they travel down a different path. A path that supports programs and people who are not residents, don’t vote or pay taxes. A reminder to the city council and management, remember who you work for in the community.
