It’s up to citizens to fight this virus

-

Oroville has had zero leadership from its mayor on COVID. He appears to model his behaviors, bullying etc., after President Trump, so this isn’t surprising. With a Republican base he won’t take a political hit for not supporting mask wearing in public spaces, something he and council member Pittman allegedly still won’t do at meetings, showing disregard for the health of others.

At least one other county, in response to the senseless resistance to wearing masks, has imposed fines for not doing so. Some think this is draconian, but I would say the resistance is more so.

In all of Butte County, Supervisor Debra Lucero seems to be doing more than any other politician, keeping us all informed daily regarding the expansion of this virus in Butte County. Of course she hopes the information will translate into more willingness to proceed with caution. Linda draper has also been informing through Facebook and strongly encourages everyone to wear masks.

I ask the non mask wearers to join the fight. Don’t worry about being mistaken for one those darned liberals. To be sure we can go back to fighting one another after we kick butt on this virus, but for now, let’s act like citizens of the same country, because we are, and work together. This virus isn’t partisan and right now we can’t afford to be either. With the lack of leadership coming from Washington and City Hall, it is on us to band together and fight this virus.
