FISH REPORT

- The weekly fishing report, compiled by Western Outdoor News, highlights the best angling opportunities in the north state.

TRINITY RIVER: Guides are reporting good salmon fishing from Junction City up to Lewiston. Fresh kings have arrived after water releases a week ago. MagLip plugs are working well. Flows at Lewiston are 433cfs, while flows at Douglas City are 456cfs and 479cfs at Junction City. The Hoopa reservation is closed.

AMERICAN RIVER: Salmon fishing is slow because of low, warm water. Expect the fall-run kings to begin arriving soon. There was a decent bite near Discovery Park late last week for anglers anchoring with FlatFish plugs or spinners.

FEATHER RIVER: Salmon fishing is slow, with a brief bite at the Outlet Hole at daylight, followed by slower fishing the rest of the day. Many Feather River guides have switched over to the Sacramento. Fresh kings could arrive on the Feather any day. SACRAMENTO RIVER, Red Bluff to Colusa: Salmon fishing is best fromChico to Red Bluff. Salmon have stacked up near Woodson Bridge, where roe is outfishing plugs. Traffic has increased because of slow fishing on the Feather.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, Verona to Colusa: Salmon fishing remains slow. Expect greater numbers of kings as the fall run begins to move in from the ocean. A few keeper stripers and lots of shakers are being caught near Verona. Fishing for catfish is very good at night near Knights Landing.

LAKE OROVILLE: Many Lake Oroville State Recreation Facilities were damaged by the Bear Fire, now known as the North Complex — West Fire Zone. Bidwell Canyon Marina and Lime Saddle Marina were not damaged, and the dam is under no threat, but most recreational facilities including the Spillway Boat ramp remain closed.

LAKE SHASTA: John Boitano of Phil’s Propeller said the public ramps remained open through the USFS fire closure. Boitano said there’s still a good topwater bite, as well as a bit of a crankbait and ripbait bite on shad patterns. Cast your offerings into the baitballs pushed to the surface and enjoy the fun. The finesse bite is coming back as the bass orient more to the bottom rather than suspending. Green pumpkin, cinnamons and purple flake are good colors. Trout are deep, in 70to 100feet, although Boitano said they might be up at 40feet early before the sun hits the water.
