- Staff reports

OROVILLE » An investigation into a robbery at Gold Country Casino involving an elderly woman has resulted in the arrest of two Marysville residents, a mother and son, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

The Sheriff’s Office began investigating the robbery on Sept. 29 and determined a woman won a significant amount of money while gambling inside the casino.

After collecting the winnings, the woman put the money inside of her wallet and sat down at a gaming machine. That’s when the Sheriff’s Office said a man approached the woman, pushed her and used physical force to take the money and other items from her.

Surveillance video ob

tained by the Sheriff’s Office showed the man running into the casino parking lot and leaving in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by a woman. The Sheriff’s Office later identified theman as Daniel Braziel, 30, and the woman as Regina Brito, 49, who is Braziel’s mother.

Arrest warrants were obtained for Braziel and Brito on Sept. 30, in addition to a searchwarrant for an address in Olivehurst.

Detectives served the search warrant, and during the search, with assistance fromthe Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, they found the vehicle Brito was driving during the robbery, the release said.

Detectives then contacted and arrested Brito at an apartment in Linda. They said they also found additional property taken during the robbery. Later that evening, detectives found Braziel driving in the Linda area, and subsequently arrested him without incident. During the arrest and subsequent interview with Braziel, detectives said they found additional evidence related to the robbery.

Braziel and Brito were booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of robbery and elder abuse. Both are scheduled to be arraigned at 3 p.m. Friday at the Butte County Superior Court.
