Vote Yes on Prop. 15 to help education

-

I am a retired Chico homeowner with two grandchildren headed for our local public schools. I want to make sure they receive good educations. I also want to seemoney coming to our community for desperately needed services. That is why I am voting yes on Prop 15.

One false charge is that

Prop 15 will cause retired people to face increased property taxes and lose their homes. Another false charge is that renters will be unable to pay increased rent. Prop 15 retains full Proposition 13 protections for homeowners and renters, so property taxes and rents will not be impacted. As the editorial endorsement by the San Francisco Chronicle states:

“Prop 15 calls for splitting the rolls, with residential property staying within the present protections while it sets more timely assessments for large business holdings. The heart of the original law that protects homeowners from sharp tax boosts will be saved.”

The largest organization of retired citizens, the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA), supports Prop 15, because it protects all homeowners while increasing funding to education, mental health programs, elder care facilities, and senior centers.

If Prop 15 passes, all 41

K-12 school districts and charters in Butte County will receive an annual allotment, totaling $20,869,181. Additional funds will pour into our area. For example, every year, Butte County will receive $3,633,000, Chico will receive $1,498,000, and Oroville will receive $484,000.

Please join me and vote Yes on Prop 15.

— Jim Burfeind, Chico ruptcy. Kami Denlay has no experience to guide Chico in this critical time. Ann was also involved in stopping Bidwell Ranch, saving 750 acres adjacent to Bidwell Park from big development.

Through Ann and others, Chico has been recognized as a Gold Bicycle Friendly community. She brought in solar for the wastewater treatment plant, was the Chair for the Sustainability Task Force, and the Northern Sacramento Valley Integrated Regional Water Management board for six counties. Water is a critical issue for our region now, with big interests wanting to sell our water south. Ann Schwab would protect it. At this critical turning point, will we allow big development and sprawl, or will we create a safe, bike-and transit-friendly, livable community with creative housing solutions for both low income and market-rate housing? Vote Ann Schwab at this critical time.
