Cal Fire shifts focus to daytime suppression
Containment of North Complex Fire now91%; Cal Fire crews cease nightwork, shift to suppression repair.
Cal Fire night crews working on the North Complex Fire will conclude their final shift Saturday as firefighters will now turn their efforts and focus to daytime suppression repair activities.
Cal Fire continued to make progress on the North Complex Fire overnight Friday as containment increased to 91 percent on the now 318,930acre wildfire burning in the hills near Berry Creek.
A cold front was expected to pass through Saturday bringing temperatures in the 60s, wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour, and a chance of scattered showers as well, but there were no reports of rainfall as of early Saturday evening.
With containment at 91 percent, minimal fire activity has continued, however green islands of vegetation continue to burn within the interior of the fire, crews advise. Fire crews are anticipating the wind event and are prepared for any snags or tree branches thatmay fall and cause additional fire hazards.
Winds, expected from the southwest Saturday, should begin clearing smoke by mid-morning Saturday, according to fires.airfire.org, as air quality in Chico is expected to be good or low-moderate.
Friday the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office lifted all mandatory and advisory orders that were currently in place, the US Forest Service said in a press release. However, officials advised residents who may be returning home of fire personnel in the area as well as forest closures and other hazardous conditions still in effect. Law enforcement will be patrolling the area as well.
