PARADISE » The stoplights in Paradise will continue operating through power shut-offs with the purchase of 16 generators.

The Town of Paradise is deploying 16 generators to keep the signals going and prevent crashes beginning Wednesday, according to a press release from the town.

PG& E was monitoring the weather Tuesday and warned that the Ridge, along with other areas in the Sierra foothills, could have it’s power shut off to prevent wildfires caused by live electric lines. If weather conditions remain windy and dry, the utility expects to turn off power beginning Wednesday evening and possibly continuing through Friday evening.

The Town applied for and received a grant from the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services in 2019 in anticipation of future public safety power shut- offs. The Cal OES grant allowed Paradise to purchase 16 generators with light towers.

“The generators will not only keep the Town’s 16 signalized intersections operational during power outages, the light towers will illuminate the intersections making other cars and pe-

destrians visible to drivers,” the release stated. “The generators will provide power to traffic signals for the du

ration of the (public safety power shut- off) event, and can be refueled if necessary for an extended outage.

“Residents are advised to remain cautious when driving through areas affected by the public safety power

shutdown. Any signal without power is to be treated as a 4-way stop.”

The Town encouraged anyone looking for more information about the shutoff to visit PG& E’s website at pge.com/pspsupdates.
