Denney tops $2 million, LaMalfa $1 million in 1st Congress District race

The two candidates in the 1st Congressio­nal District race have raisedmore than $3 million between them, according to documents filed last week with the Federal Election Commission.

That’s about $7.20 for every registered voter the Secretary of State’swebsite reported as of Sept. 4.

Audrey Denney has taken in close twice as much as Doug LaMalfa, topping $2 million while he’s over $1 million.

Thursday was the most recent deadline for filing campaign finance reports in federal races. The most recent reports cover the period between July 1 and Sept. 30.

In that period Denney, a Chico Democrat, took in $690,143, bringing her total for the election cycle to $2,000,201.

She reported spending $632,231 in the most recent period, for a total of $1,486,461. She had $577,633 on hand Sept. 30.

Most of her contributi­ons were from individual­s: $645,239 in the most recent reporting period and $1,906,322 overall.

A total of $ 562,320 came in through ActBlue, a website that allows individual donations or an automatic schedule of donations to Democratic candidates. As reported earlier, Denney herself had set up automatic donations to Chico City Council candidate Rich Ober. They ultimately added up to more than the city’s $500 limit, and required a refund to come into compliance.

Political action committees donated $39,639 to Denney in the latest period, and $86,839 overall. Democratic Party committees kicked in $6,920 in July through September, and $15,318 overall.

LaMalfa, the incumbent Republican fromRichva­le, raised $176,370 in themost recent period, bringing his total to $1,011,793.

He reported spending during the period of $307, 384, for a total of $642,856. He had $421,494 cash on hand as of Sept. 30.

LaMal f a received $129,870 from individual­s in the most recent period and $46,500 frompoliti­cal action committees. For the whole campaign, $540,289 has come from individual­s and $341,910 from PACs.
