Paper, community losing a true resource Missing Laura and ‘old school journalism’
I have observed EnterpriseRecord journalistic talent since 1958 when I joined the news staff as a reporter and, later, editor of the business and agriculture sections. I regard Laura Urseny as the E
R’s BEST business editor since then and a general reporter with skills comparable to the legendary Oroville beat reporter Nick Ellena. The paper and the community are losing a journalistic resource imbued with the right mix of compassion and “tell it like it is” that made reading her work a joy. Journalists are a wandering lot and we’ve been fortunate to have her in our midst for more than 40 years. Perhaps unknowingly to herself, Laura has been the E-R’s ambassador who best exemplified E-R efforts to inform. I treasure her friendship.

It was with great disappointment that I learned of the retirement of Laura Urseny from the Enterprise Record. I have been reading the Enterprise Record since I could read, and have had various interactions with Laura through the years. Laura is of the old school of journalism who believes in accuracy, integrity and facts.
She has been of enormous assistance to me as I attempted to submit various meeting notices. Laura exhibited patience and expertise as she guided me in the importance of submitting on deadline. I have no doubt she has left her mark on many others in the community as her beat covered just about everything in the area that was newsworthy. And just think of the news that she has covered over the years: a war or two, the dam break, fires, fires and more fires, U-2 crashes, a bizarre presidential term, a pandemic and its subsequent vaccine, an insurrection, sports and obituaries.
She covered them all, writing articles with skill and precision, and most important, informing us. Thank you, Laura. Enjoy a well- deserved retirement. You will be missed.
