Snow is predicted for upper ridge with storm
Incoming winter storm expected to start Sunday
PARADISE » An early week snowstorm for Northern California may bring snow to the foothill areas including Magalia on Tuesday and Wednesday.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Karleisa Rodgacheski said Saturday that Magalia can expect to get 8 to 12 inches of snow while Paradise isn’t forecasted to get any at this time.
“The tricky thing about this storm,” Rodgacheski said. “Is that it all depends on the snow level and the winds.”
So while the snow isn’t expected in Paradise, but more likely near the Paradise/Magalia border, Rodgacheski said that could change.
The Town of Paradise announced on Friday said that it was making plans to respond to the winter storm warning, saying it will be ready to plow roads of any snow and clear downed trees and other hazards.
The town also encourages those who do not have to travel to stay home.
Rodgacheski said that foothill communities above Magalia like DeSabla, Lovelock and Stirling City could get between 18 to 24 inches of snow.
She said that those traveling to and from those areas should keep a close tab on weather conditions and forecasts.
The National Weather Service says there will be potential for significant travel delays in chain controls starting Saturday and into early next week and forecasters say there could be white-out conditions at times.
Starting Sunday night forecasters expect there to be 6 to 8 feet of snow at pass levels with some getting up to a foot of snow.
Snow with accumulation on Sunday will be between 1 to 2 inches between 2,000 and 3,000 feet.
By early Monday morning, the snow elevation could be as low as 1,000 feet and Tuesday forecasters expect snow levels to be between 1,000 and 2,500 feet.
Rodgacheski said the snow levels will increase starting Wednesday into Thursday morning. According to an NWS press release the snow levels will rise to 3,000 to 4,500 feet.
While the weather service says colder air could bring snow levels down in the northern Sacramento Valley on Tuesday, the valley is expected to see 2 to 4 inches of rain with some areas getting higher amounts of rain.
The storm is expected to fall through Friday.
