CHICO HIGH GIRLS TENNIS TOPS ORLAND
Chico High beat Orland High School on Thursday at the Community Park tennis courts in Chico.
Skyler Granlund, Carlotta Preti, Erika Matson and Mallarie Payton all won in singles for the Panthers. Granlund and Matson won their matches in straight sets.
Orland’s Gaby Alvarez and Risie Manner won in straight sets in singles.
The doubles matches and final score did not conclude before deadline.
Chico plays next on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley.

Prep Cross Country
GRIDLEY AT OROVILLE (RIVERBEND PARK) >> Damian Mendoza Jr. finished in first place for the Gridley boys in 20 minutes and 47 seconds on Wednesday in the 5 kilometer run at Riverbend Park in Oroville. In second place was Gridley’s Gordan LaBuff who finished in 21:39 followed by Oroville sophomore Wyatt Stanhope who finished in third.
The Gridley boys were the only team able to field a full team Wednesday, according to Gridley Coach Steve Allard.
Janessa Delgado, a freshman, finished in first place in the girls race and in fourth place overall. Oroville’s Kimberly Navarrete finished second in 22:59 followed by Gridley’s Giselle Fuentes who finished in third place for the Bulldogs.
Gridley will next race at 2 p.m. Wednesday against Orland at Lely Aquatic Park in Orland.

ORLAND 7, PLEASANT VALLEY 2 >> Orland beat Pleasant Valley at Orland High School on Wednesday.
Marina Saez-Feria won her singles match for Pleasant Valley and the team of Julia Mcgarva and Mallory Moore were victorious in doubles.
No stats were provided by Orland.
PV (2-1) will play next on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Corning.
