Councilor should support mandates of the people

-

I just saw a disturbing video showing city councilor Scott Huber moving a man and his belongings from the illegal campsite on Boucher Avenue to a newer illegal campsite inside Bidwell Park. He abandoned his efforts when he discovered he was being recorded.

Huber’s unsuccessful history with the city council may make him feel responsible for our ballooning homeless crisis but if he’s trying to ease his conscience by encouraging illegal homeless camping activities he should resign. Replace him with someone willing to support the mandates of the council and voters he’s supposed to represent. His recorded actions purposely attempted to subvert the endeavors of our police and parks personnel and the mandate of Chico’s voters and council.

Having to sleep in the mud and cold is wrong. Using our park and creek as a toilet and garbage can is wrong.

Suggestion for Huber: Determine homeless population minus those already in free motels etc. Rent heated building(s) with “CDC social distance space” capable of “sleeping” the remainder. Lay out spaces with a cot in each space. Portable toilets with hand washing stations. Posted hours available for sleeping. Shipping containers outside for storage of belongings while sleeping. COVID requirements enforced. Supervision and cleaning by Huber and likeminded volunteers. Illegal campers would have a safe and legal (re: Martin v. City of Boise) alternative, if they’d take it.

Huber should resign from the council and volunteer in a different capacity and quit grandstanding.

Boucher and Humboldt” on YouTube.
