Chico’s Cinemark to reopen Friday

- Staff reports CHICO >>

After bouncing back and forth between closing and reopening, the Cinemark theater will be reopening Friday, the company announced in a press release. The announcement comes after Butte County was moved into the red tier on Tuesday.

The theater, located at 801 East Ave., will reopen with enhanced cleaning and sanitizing protocols, the release said. The doors will open about 20 minutes before the first showtime. The earliest showtime listed on the Cinemark website was 2:35 p.m. Friday.

Movie theaters were forced to close in March 2020 and Cinemark reopened briefly in October when the county was moved to the red tier. However, theaters were forced to close shortly after when the state was ordered to shut down following a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The company said it will “extensively disinfect” each auditorium between showtimes and also have staggered showtimes along with limited capacities to ensure social distancing.

Face masks will be mandatory for all guests and employees. Seat wipes and hand sanitizer will also be available for customers to use.

Guests can purchase movie tickets online while contactless payment methods will be available at the theater. Cash payment options will be limited, the release said.

Private watch parties can be booked through the theater as well. Prices for a private watch party start at $99 for classic movies and $149 for new movies.

Tickets for standard showtimes and private watch parties can be purchased at www.cinemark.com.
