2 men suspected of home burglary near Chico State campus arrested

Two men suspected in a residentia­l burglary in an area south of Chico State’s campus were arrested Wednesday, according to a press release from the Chico Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Ivy Street at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday for an apparent residentia­l burglary that had just occurred.

Residents who spoke with police said they were asleep while the burglary was in progress. According to one resident, he was awoken by an unknown noise and walked to the front room of the residence to find two men he didn’t know.

The resident said the two men “acted as if they belonged in the residence” before they ran out the front door of the home in possession of bags full of property belonging to the residents, according to the release.

Officers with the Chico Police Department and Chico State University Police Department subsequent­ly checked the south campus area in search of the potential subjects. Approximat­ely 20 minutes after officers first responded to the call, a University Police officer found a subject who matched the descriptio­n of one of the suspects. According to the release, the subject was carrying bags similar to ones that the resident saw taken during the burglary.

The man, identified as Dangelo Lynch, 38, was positively identified by the resident as one of the men in the burglary. Lynch was subsequent­ly arrested on suspicion of residentia­l burglary and transporte­d to the Butte County Jail, where he was booked at 12:49 p.m. Lynch’s bail amount was set at $100,000.

The whereabout­s of the second suspect were not immediatel­y known, however, at approximat­ely 12:37 p.m., Chico Police Department dispatch received informatio­n that a man matching his descriptio­n was seen riding a bicycle through an apartment complex near Pomona Avenue. Police said the man was also wearing a backpack that had been stolen in the burglary.

Officers then checked found the suspect, identified as Sador Fitsum, 31, near Walnut and West Second streets. Fitsum was positively identified as the other subject involved was arrested on suspicion of residentia­l burglary.

The backpack was also identified as belonging to one of the resident’s, and police said it contained property stolen from the house. Fitsum was transporte­d and booked at the Butte County Jail on $100,000 bail.
