Oroville man suspected of killing his father
OROVILLE >> An Oroville man was killed Thursday afternoon and deputies arrested his son as they investigate the death.
Tyler Anderson, 28, or Oroville, was arrested on suspicion of an open count of murder, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 12:36 p.m. on Ve Avenue in Oroville. A man suspected of being involved was detained, according to BCSO public information officer Megan McMann on Thursday afternoon, who added there is not a public safety risk.
According to the release, a woman called 9-1-1 and told a dispatcher her son had just killed her husband.
Radio traffic of the incident indicated that the man had been killed with a hammer.
Deputies responding to the scene told dispatchers they met the woman who told them the hammer was still near the body.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Jerry Anderson, 63, of Oroville, and said in the release he is Tyler Anderson’s father.
First responders confirmed that Jerry Anderson was dead shortly after arriving.
Detectives gathered evidence that they say show Tyler Anderson was responsible for Jerry Anderson’s death, arrested the younger man and booked him into the Butte County Jail Thursday afternoon.
Tyler Anderson is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday.
The investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about the killing to call BCSO detectives at 538-7671.
