In support of editorial on schools

-

As a school board member myself, with the Palermo Union School District, I applaud the editorial in the Enterprise Record on March 5. You made several great points and I would like to reiterate a few.

First, a disruption now, with only weeks left in the school year would be counterproductive. All of the school districts in Butte County have been working diligently for the past year to adapt to the changing dynamics of this pandemic, and they have done so with the best interests of the students, parents, and school personnel in mind. Nothing has been done in a haphazard manner. To toss everything aside now would be nonsensical.

And, secondly, even though we are making great strides in reducing COVID cases here in Butte County, we are still in the red tier and we have at least one new viral strain in our county. We must continue to take this pandemic seriously. Let’s finish this school year safely with the goal of starting the next school year in a normal setting.

And finally, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment that Kathleen Kaiser and Eileen Robinson have a proven track record of making good decisions in their multiple terms in the past and that Tom Lando and Caitlin Dalby have provided a much-needed teachers’ perspective to the board. They are the adults in the room, and they are making the right decision for everyone concerned. So, again, thank you for your wonderful editorial.
