MARION ROSALIE FREY
Marion Frey died peacefully at home of natural causes, surrounded by family, on March 11, 2021. She was 92.
Marion was born in Chico on February 8, 1929, the 4th of 5 children, to Stanley and Bertha Chapman. She graduated from Chico High School in 1946. After high school, she attended Chico State College’s nursing program until marrying Don Drane and starting a family. Marion and Don divorced, and she married Ted Fox. After Ted’s death, Marion married Richard Frey, who survives her as her husband of 23 years. Marion was a long-time volunteer with Chico Community Hospital, serving as Volunteer Coordinator and President over the years. After CCH closed, a group of the volunteers continued meeting on the 2nd Saturday of every month for lunch right up until COVID-19 closed restaurants and prevented gatherings. Marion was a long-time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and was active in the UMW for many years.
Marion was devoted to her family and loved nothing more than spending time with them, notably hosting “Grandma’s Day” every Thursday for many joy and fun-filled years for her beloved grandchildren. She also attended every sporting event, competition and recital of her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren that she could. Marion also loved entertaining, gardening, sewing, and was an avid reader.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her beloved sister Barbara Quiring, sons Ray Drane (Gail), Vern Drane (Debbie), Mark Drane (Drena), Jerry Fox (Kathy), Ted Fox, Jr. (Lani Coelho), and Lester Fox, daughter Emilie Fox (Charles Runnels, Jr.), 15 grandchildren, 31 greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandson, whom she got to meet and hold last fall. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Marion was predeceased by her parents, brothers Ralph Chapman and Eugene Chapman, and prior husbands Don Drane and Ted Fox.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date when family and friends can gather together safely in person.
Memorial contributions in memory of Marion can be made to Butte Home Health & Hospice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com
