Thursday Night Market to return

-

CHICO >> At long last, the Thursday Night Market is coming back to downtown Chico.

The Downtown Chico Business Association announced the Thursday Night Market will return May 6 and run through Sept. 16 each Thursday from 6-9 p.m. The market is held on Broadway Street between Second and Fifth streets, including side streets and the City Plaza.

A variety of retail shops, restaurants, art galleries and vendor booths will be open for the public to visit. Certified growers offer fresh assortments of fruits and vegetables, bouquets of freshcut flowers, nuts, jams and spreads, honey, plant starts and more. Vendors also have authentic artwork and crafts, as well as handmade clothing and jewelry.

There will also be various forms of entertainment each week at the market, ranging from balloon artists, comics and local singers and songwriters.

Thursday Night Market had numerous cancellations in 2020. Set to return in late June, it was later postponed as a result of a heat advisory in Butte County. Another date as set for the first week of July, then canceled in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plea for the public not to gather with anyone outside of their immediate household as COVID-19 cases climbed in the county and throughout California.

According a press release from the DCBA, the Thursday Night Market will be operating in accordance with state guidelines and Butte County Public Health recommendations. Hand sanitizer will be available for shoppers, booths will be spaced six feet apart, and if people see crowded booths, they are asked to consider visiting a different booth or shop elsewhere until there are fewer people. Organizers are also asking people who do not feel well to stay home.
