Bulldogs overtake Pirates in opener

The Gridley High football team won its season opener 43-14 over Wheatland on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Cameron Carr, a senior, led the Bulldogs with 18 carries, 339 yards and four touchdowns on the ground against the Pirates. Carr also completed 4-of-6 passes for 53 yards and one touchdown. Shay Carr hauled in a touchdown catch while Ryan Smith had a rushing touchdown on 11 carries and 43 yards.

Gridley (1-0) plays at Sutter at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

DURHAM 26, HAMILTON 6 » After a scoreless first quarter, Durham put up a 13-6 advantage in the second quarter against the host Braves on Friday night.

Durham added on with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter to pull away for a 26-6 victory on the road.

Durham (1-1) hosts Live Oak at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Hamilton (0-2) plays at Biggs at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Prep volleyball

DURHAM 3, PARADISE 1 » The Trojans defeated the Bobcats 25-22, 27-25 20-25 and 25-14 at home Friday.

Karena Bryant led Durham with 16 kills, 10 digs four aces. Bella Pendley added seven kills. Abby Thorpe collected 20 assists and four aces.

Durham (2-0) plays at Las Plumas at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Prep field hockey

PLEASANT VALLEY 6, LASSEN 0 » The Vikings shut out Lassen Friday night at home.

Kiley Rechs led PV with three goals and an assist, Zoe NunezBauer added two goals, Brooklyn Longueira added two assists and one goal, Mallory Ratner and Contessa Whittaker each added an assist.

Savanah Cresswell recorded four saves for the Vikings.
