Police officer running for supervisor
Chico police officer, longtime Chico resident and former professional baseball umpire Peter Durfee announced Monday that he will run for the Butte County Board of Supervisors in District 2.
The District 2 seat is currently occupied by Supervisor Debra Lucero. The election will take place on June 7, 2022, city staff said, which will come seven months before Lucero’s term is scheduled to conclude on Jan. 9, 2023.
Durfee has been an officer with the city of Chico for 12 years and if elected would be the only public safety representative to currently serve on the Board of Supervisors. He currently serves with the Chico Police Department as a hostage negotiator, crisis intervention instructor, field training officer and is an instructor at
the Butte College Law Enforcement Academy.
In 2016, Durfee was the
recipient of the Chico Police Officer of the Year award before winning the Lifesaving Medal Award for taking decisive action to save a human life in 2021.
On Durfee’s website durfeeforsupervisor.com
it states his goals include: increased public safety, safer streets and parks; local control; community recovery regarding COVID-19 and the Camp Fire; a vibrant business community; and water and agriculture.
“I’m running for county supervisor to protect the community that I was born and raised in,” Durfee said in the press release Monday. “We’ve seen what happens when you allow transients to take over our public spaces and hand out unlimited free needles to drug addicts. Chico residents need representation at the county level that will stand up for families and enhance community safety.”
