Magalia Community Church’s historic firehouse will soon become a food distribution center.

The church announced earlier this week that in an attempt to better support the wildfire survivors’ physical needs it will move its food distribution to its historic firehouse. The church says that it will make its food distribution be even more streamlined the firehouse has a large overhead door and a forklift can be driven right inside.

They will officially begin the new service location Saturday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 13734 Old Skyway in Old Magalia.

The church also announced it has moved the clothing from the tents and set up a cleaner, better-organized area for clothing distribution in the north room of the community fellowship hall.

“Now, when we have storms, we don’t have to spend the next day washing the clothing that got wet and dirty from the storm,” M. A. “Shell” Morley, an elder/co-treasurer and office manager for the church said in a press release. “Nor do we have to worry about washing clothing that got soiled from the incessant dust that was stirred up in the tents all summer and fall.

Morley added that they have culled all but new or very gently used clothing and accessories for survivors who need a new outfit for a job interview or starting a new job.

Both the firehouse and north room are compliant with COVID-19 regulations and all areas are sanitized for visitor’s protection.
