Police arrest Truckee man suspected of driving pickup through closed car wash
A man suspected of vandalizing a car wash early Thursday morning was arrested after police searched for him over several hours.
Tucker Andrews, 29, of Truckee, was arrested on suspicion of vandalism for alleged actions at Surf Thru Car Wash, located at 2573 The Esplanade.
Chico police officers were dispatched to The Esplanade and East Lassen Avenue for a report of a suspicious person on the hood of a pickup truck, according to a Chico Police Department press release. At the time officers were dispatched, around 5:40 a.m., the suspect was reportedly kicking out the windshield of the pickup, a white Toyota Tacoma.
After officers arrived at the location, a person flagged officers down and reported the driver of the pickup had just vandalized the Surf Thru Car Wash.
Officers responded to the car wash and discovered damage to the metal rollup doors. Officers believed the pickup drove through the rollup door on the westside of the carwash and out through the rollup door on the eastside of the carwash. Several thousands of dollars’ worth of damage was caused in the process, police said.
After further investigation, officers recovered video of a man they suspected of committing the crime and the vehicle involved. At 7:43 a.m. when the Chico Police Department issued the press release, which included surveillance photos of the suspect and the vehicle, officers had not located the man.
However, less than one hour later, police announced that the pickup had been found and Andrews had been arrested.
