Butte softball opens with sweep

Roadrunner­s take 2 wins over rival Feather River

The Butte College softball team opened its 2021 season with a doublehead­er sweep of Feather River on Saturday.

The Roadrunner­s won the opener 9-1, before topping Feather River 7-2 in game two.

In game one Jenna Griffith, Hannah Belser, Maggie Smith, Savannah Wahl, Savannah Berkowitz, Savannah Auer and Mary Avila each had two hits for Butte. Smith, Wahl and Avila each had two RBIs for

Butte in game one as Butte tallied five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth after trailing 1-0 the first four innings.

The Chico High alumni Smith went 3-for-4 for Butte in game two, including a double and three RBIs. Hannah Belser and Ashley Carbah each had two hits for Butte while former Paradise High standout Savanah Berkowitz added an RBI in the win in game two.

Butte pitcher Taytum Mello scattered five hits in five innings of work, striking out six and walking none.

Butte plays next on Thursday in a doublehead­er at noon against College of the Redwoods at the

Big League Dreams facility in Redding.

Prep Softball LASSEN 6, VIKINGS 1 >>

Pleasant Valley lost 6-1 in its season-opener on Saturday to Lassen in Chico.

Serina Vue, Kiya Hamar, Emily Ables, and Nicolena Holen had one hit each for the Vikings who had trouble with Lassen’s (20) pitcher Reegan Floyd. Floyd allowed four hits and one run, walking none while striking out eight in seven innings of work.

Lottie Farley who took the loss for the Vikings, striking out six and walking one. The Vikings will next take the diamond on Wednesday at Chico High (0-1). Chico High lost to

Lassen 9-0 to open their season on Thursday.

BIGGS 49, WILLIAMS 8 >> Parker Finley had just four carries but they were enough to get 192 yards and two touchdowns against Williams on Friday night. Shavon GrampsGree­n gained 175 yards on nine carries for the Wolverines. Gramps-Green also scored three touchdowns on the night, giving him 20 touchdowns on the season for 5-0 Wolverines.

Cameron Jackson scored a rushing and receiving touchdown for Biggs who will face Live Oak (0-1) on Friday.
