JERRY JOHN SELKEN

Jerry John Selken was born in Hartley, Iowa on September 21, 1934 and passed away on March 20, 2021 at the age of 86. He was a resident of Chico for approximat­ely 46 years. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Everett William Henry Selken, mother, Wilma Laura Anna Haase Selken, and brother Jim Selken.

Jerry graduated in 1952 from Hartley High School and soon after joined the Army. He served in Germany where he worked in the Helicopter Division as a mechanic and reached the rank of Sergeant. After serving his tour of duty, Jerry worked at Hughes Aircraft in Orange County, California for approximat­ely 11 years. Jerry then moved to Chico where he worked several years for Aero Union before starting his own company, “SelTech” in 1985. Sel-Tech is a manufactur­ing company for the aerospace industry that builds Airstairs, Aerial Fire Fighting Equipment, etc. Jerry designed and manufactur­ed the first S64 Helicopter Fire Retardant Tank.

Jerry walked through life with a kind, giving heart and had a great zest for life. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, rockhoundi­ng and camping.

Jerry is survived by his long time companion, Lena Evans; daughters, Linda Sulik, Gwen Valentine; son, Carl Evans; grandsons, Chad Sulik, John Sulik; sisters, Joyce Johnson, Janelle Teply; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
