Darvish, Myers lift Padres past Pirates
Yu Darvish allowed three hits over seven dominant innings, Wil Myers drove in five runs, and the San Diego Padres extended their strong start with a 6-2 win against the Pirates on Monday night in Pittsburgh.
Darvish (1-0), acquired from the Chicago Cubs in December in hopes of helping San Diego chase down the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, struck out six and walked one in a crisp performance as the Padres won their fourth straight. The fourtime All-Star worked efficiently, throwing 63 of 95 pitches for strikes and permitting just one runner past second base.
Myers hit a two-run homer to the bushes beyond center field in the sixth off 21-year-old reliever Luis Oviedo (0-1) to put San Diego in front to stay. Myers added a tworun single in the seventh and is batting .370 (10 for 27) during his seven-game hitting streak.

Glasnow (1-0) allowed two hits and got his first win of the season after pitching well but not being involved in decisions in two previous starts. He allowed Eli White’s single up the middle off the glove of diving second baseman Brandon Lowe with one out in the fifth and Jose Trevino’s leadoff single in the eighth.

Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta (2-0) struck out 10 in six innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks. NATIONALS 5, CARDINALS 2 >> Kyle Schwarber doubled in a run in his delayed Nationals debut, Andrew Stevenson had a pinch-hit homer and Washington beat St. Louis.
TIGERS 6, ASTROS 2 >> Rookie Casey Mize tossed seven scoreless innings for his first career win and fellow rookie Akil Baddoo homered again as Detroit got a win over Houston in manager A.J. Hinch’s first trip to Houston since he was fired for the team’s sign-stealing scheme. MARLINS 5, BRAVES 3 (10) >> Garrett Cooper had three RBIs and drove in the goahead run in the 10th inning off Jacob Webb, lifting Miami to a win over Atlanta.
The 10th began with runner Jon Berti advancing from second to third. WHITE SOX 4, INDIANS 3 >> First baseman Yu Chang hit Yasmani Grandal with a throw trying to force him at second base as Nick Madrigal raced home with the winning run in the ninth inning, and Chicago White beat Cleveland.
